 U.N chief Guterres calls for countries fueling Sudan's war to be held accountable United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Wednesday for countries providing weapons to the warring parties in Sudan that are used to attack civilians to be held accountable. "What is happening in Sudan is absolutely horrible. The humanitarian situation in Sudan is devastating. The level of suffering of the Sudanese people is intolerable," Guterres told reporters ahead of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York next week. Sudan's war, which erupted in April 2023 following a power struggle between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has displaced more than 14 million people and created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.  Senator Katung Condemns Attack On Zonkwa Police Division, Mourns Fallen Officers


The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, has condemned in strong terms the recent attack on the Zonkwa Police Division, headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, which led to the death of two police officers.


In a statement issued on Sunday, Senator Katung described the assault as wicked, barbaric, and reprehensible, stressing that such criminal acts against security agencies must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.


“Most disturbing is the dangerous affront on the lives of our police officers and security personnel who, day after day, endure the most difficult and excruciating circumstances in their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians,” the Senator said.


Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Senator Katung called on security agencies to deploy all available resources to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.


He extended his condolences to the families of the slain officers and the entire Nigeria Police Force, praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased and strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.


“My deepest condolences go to the families of the deceased officers, as well as to the entire Police Force. I pray that God grants the departed officers eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.


The lawmaker also appealed to residents of Zonkwa and surrounding communities to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security personnel as efforts intensify to track down those responsible.
