Syracuse Crunch shut out Utica Comets, 3-0

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK - Brandon Halverson and the Syracuse Crunch secured a 3-0 shutout over the Utica Comets Friday night at Upstate Medical University Arena.

Halverson stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn his second consecutive home shutout, lifting Syracuse to a 4-1-0-0 start to the season. Utica goaltender Jakub Malek made 31 saves on 33 shots, while the Crunch converted on 1-of-3 power-play opportunities and held the Comets scoreless on their own man-advantage chances.

After a scoreless first period, Syracuse broke through four minutes into the second. Dylan Duke’s shot from the right circle was stopped by Malek, but Lucas Mercuri crashed the crease and poked the rebound across the goal line. The Crunch extended their lead with a power-play goal 5:50 into the third period, as Conor Geekie’s wrister from the top of the right circle was tipped home by Jakob Pelletier. Boris Katchouk added an empty-net goal late to seal the victory.

The Crunch return to action on Wednesday when they visit the Toronto Marlies. Single-game tickets and season packages for 2025-26 are available at the Crunch office at Upstate Medical University Arena, by phone at 315-473-4444, or online through Ticketmaster.
