AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  9 dead in accidental blast at Kashmir police station

At least nine people were killed and 32 others injured in an accidental explosion at a police station in Kashmir, officials said, after materials used to make bombs detonated during forensic examination.

The blast occurred just before midnight Friday in Nowgam, in the India-administered region, as officers were inspecting materials seized during a terrorism investigation. Regional Director-General of Police Nalin Prabhat described the incident as “very unfortunate” and urged against speculation on its cause.

The explosives and other weapons had been confiscated in Faridabad while investigating a car bombing in New Delhi that killed eight people earlier in the week, which authorities classified as a terrorist attack. Officials said the materials were linked to the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Six individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, including four doctors whose licenses were revoked on Friday.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the police station and nearby structures. Police reported body parts scattered up to 650 feet from the blast site, and several vehicles were destroyed by fire. Regional Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered a formal investigation to determine how the detonation occurred.
