 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Abia Government to Immortalise Prof. Nnennaya Oti for Her Integrity


Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has announced that his administration will immortalise the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor Nnennnaya Oti, for upholding truth and integrity and refusing to compromise standards during the 2023 general elections.


Governor Otti who was speaking at the Enyimba International Stadium Aba, during a grand civic reception held in his honour by the Old Bende people under the umbrella of the Old Bende Progressive Union, comprising the 8 LGAS of Old Bende including the people of Edda in Ebonyi State wherein Prof. Nnennaya Oti was honored by the Union.


The Governor who described Prof. Nnennaya Oti as a woman of integrity and credibility, noted that her uncommon courage during the 2023 Governorship election earned her the respect of all Nigerians and  congratulated her on the honor done her by the Old Bende people.
