AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Dolly Parton shares Thanksgiving message of gratitude after health challenges

Dolly Parton shared a heartfelt Thanksgiving message with her fans on Thursday, sending blessings and warm wishes for the holiday. The 79-year-old country music legend appeared cheerful and grateful as she addressed her audience.

“Well, hey! It’s Dolly here, and I want to wish all of you and your family blessings this Thanksgiving,” she said. “I am so thankful for all of you and for the memories that we’ve shared through the years. So Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and just know that I will always love you.”

Parton had recently faced health challenges that led her to cancel a planned Las Vegas residency and an appearance at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 16th Governors Awards, where she was to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. In an October video, she reassured fans, saying, “I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working.”

She explained that after the death of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, in March, she had neglected some aspects of her health. “So anyway, when I got around to it, the doctor said, ‘We need to take care of this. We need to take care of that.’ Nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home, closer to Vanderbilt, you know, where I’m kind of having a few treatments here and there,” Parton said. She expressed appreciation for the support, saying, “So I love you for caring and keep praying for me.”

Her sister, Freida Parton, also addressed the public, clarifying that her request for prayers had not meant to alarm anyone. “She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.”
