 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Gov. Uba Sani Makes Fresh Appointments 


Governor Uba Sani has approved a new round of appointments into key positions across Kaduna State’s ministries, boards, and agencies as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and professional excellence.


In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, the governor said the appointments were aimed at bringing innovative, resourceful, and patriotic professionals into public service to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and political re-engineering of the state.


Key appointments include:


1.  Dr. Suwaiba Shehu Ibrahim, Mni - Executive Chairman, Kaduna State Senior Secondary Schools Education Board.


2.  Hon. Nita Byack George - Permanent Member, Kaduna State Senior Secondary Schools Education Board

Dr. Suwaiba Shehu Ibrahim, Mni, the new Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Schools Education Board, is a seasoned academic and administrator with vast experience in education and public service. Before her appointment, she was Permanent Secretary at the Kaduna State Teachers Service Board and a lecturer at Kaduna State University.


Hon. Nita Byack George, appointed Permanent Member of the Board, is a development specialist and filmmaker with a diverse background in governance, peacebuilding, and social inclusion. She previously served as Sole Administrator of Jaba Local Government.


Hon. Monday Tela Bako, a retired civil servant and seasoned administrator, brings decades of experience from the Kaduna State Civil Service and the Public Complaints Commission.


Hon. Phoebe Sukai Yayi, appointed Deputy Provost at the Samarun Kataf Campus of the Institute of Vocational Training, has nearly four decades of experience in administration and human resource management, and was previously Permanent Secretary in several ministries, including Education and Planning.


Mallam El-Said Yakubu Lere, now Board Chairman of KSMC, is a veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, known for his role in establishing Liberty Radio Kaduna.


Zakari Aliyu, the new Executive Director of KSMC, is an experienced broadcaster and media professional with over three decades of service in journalism and public communication.


Hon. Gambo Mathew Bulus, new Chairman of KADA, is a development analyst and former Executive Chairman of Lere Local Government.


Mal. Lawal Usman, the new Chairman of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, is a sociologist and educationist with deep involvement in community development.


Murjanatu Sulaiman Shika, appointed Special Adviser on Vocational Training and Skills Development, is a renowned academic, women’s rights advocate, and political strategist with over 15 years of leadership experience.


While congratulating the new appointees, Governor Uba Sani charged them to view their appointments as a call to serve the people of Kaduna State with integrity, commitment, and fairness.


“These appointments reflect our administration’s resolve to tap into the talents and expertise of our citizens to drive development across all sectors,” the Governor stated. “I urge the appointees to discharge their duties with diligence, humility, and total dedication to the progress of Kaduna State.”


Governor Sani expressed confidence that the new team will contribute significantly to his administration’s vision of inclusive governance, skills development, educational reform, and sustainable socio-economic growth.
