 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Kaduna Govt Offers To Renovate ABU Internal Roads


The Kaduna State Government has expressed its readiness to renovate selected internal roads within Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.


The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed.


Dr. Ahmed explained that the visit followed the directive of the Kaduna State Governor, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, CON. He said the team was at ABU to inspect the road network and identify areas where the government could intervene.


He noted that the state government considered it important to support the university, describing ABU as a premier institution in Northern Nigeria. He assured the Vice-Chancellor that renovation work would commence as soon as possible.


In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the KADRA Managing Director for the visit and thanked Governor Uba Sani for his continued support to the university.


The Vice-Chancellor commended the governor for the attention given to ABU, saying such support was unprecedented. He added that although the governor was not an alumnus of the university, he had shown deep respect for the institution.


Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Bello Sabo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Raymond Bako; Registrar, Rabiu Samaila; Bursar, Malam Mohammed Bello Aminu Gurin; Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, Auwalu Umar; and the Campus Planner, TPL Abubakar Sani.
