 New UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Inspects Students’ Hostels, Abandoned Projects, Orders Immediate Intervention

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, embarked on an inspection tour of students’ hostels to obtain first-hand information on their living conditions. The visit, coming shortly after his assumption of office as the substantive Vice-Chancellor, covered key hostels including the Prof. Dora Akunyili Hostel for female students and the Basil Oli Hostel for male students.

During the inspection, students led by Comrade Samuel Chinazam highlighted pressing needs affecting their daily life on campus, particularly poor power supply and the burden of internet subscription. Responding promptly, Professor Anyaehie approved free WiFi subscription with immediate effect and assured the students that concrete steps would be taken to improve power supply across the hostels.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that his administration is committed to creating a conducive learning environment and encouraged students to remain focused on their academic goals. He reiterated his intention to maintain regular engagement with student leaders, promising an open communication channel where complaints and concerns can be addressed swiftly. “You will not return from the Christmas holidays to the same conditions,” he assured.

In addition to the hostel assessment, Professor Anyaehie inspected several uncompleted and abandoned projects within the university, including the Vice-Chancellor’s lodge and the Alumni building. He pledged that the institution would give urgent attention to their completion and revealed that several projects would be commissioned within his first month in office.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the tour by members of the University’s internal Governing Council and the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Nnewi, Professor F. Emejulu, reaffirming the administration’s collective commitment to improving infrastructure and student welfare at UNIZIK.
