 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  NSCDC LAGOS STATE COMMANDANT NAMES ACC OLOYEDE IGE AS COMMANDER MARINE AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION UNIT, STOPS ILLEGAL DREDGERS, SAND EXCAVATORS UNDER FEDERAL BRIDGES .


In compliance with the directive of the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD., mni, OFR, to all Commands to implement the resolutions of the Office of the National Security Adviser 's meeting on collaboration with stakeholders such as National Inland Waterways Authority ( NIWA ) and the Federal Ministry of Works ( FMW ) with the aim to protect Critical National Infrastructure in the state .


2.The State Commandant , NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro has launched the Marine and Infrastructure Protection Unit on Thursday , 20th November, 2025 while commissioning the Speed Boat donated by the Honourable Minister of Interior, His Excellency, Eng., Dave Umahi to enhance the Command's operations in the Marine corridor aimed at protecting the integrity of the Bridges.


3.The Lagos State Commandant named Assistant Commandant Oloyede Ige as the Commander, Marine and Infrastructure Protection Unit of the Command. The new Commander will no doubt bring his wealth of experience into play in a bid to work assiduously to stamp out illegal dredging , excavation and encroachment on the Right of Way ( ROW ) of the  Bridges in the state.


4.He also seized the opportunity to warn illegal dredgers and excavators of sand under the Bridges such as the Third Mainland, Eko, Carter and all Federal Bridges in the state to desist from the dastardly act or face the full wrath of the law.
