 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Man fatally shot near cemetery at Ga-Dikgale


Police in Sebayeng have opened a case of murder and launched a manhunt for suspects following the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man at Mmadiga Village, Ga-Dikgale, in the early hours of Sunday, 2 November 2025, at about 00:30.  


According to reports, police were alerted to a shooting incident and immediately proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival, no one was found. While still there, officers received another call indicating that the victim had been taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.  


It is alleged that the deceased was walking with a companion near the cemetery when a vehicle stopped a few metres ahead of them. The occupants reportedly shouted insults, and when ignored, one of them fired a shot, fatally wounding the man before fleeing the scene.  


The motive for the shooting is still unknown. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to anyone with information to contact the investigating officer, Constable Maropeng Malahlela, on 082 711 0667.
