 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Uchechi Kanu Blasts Associates for Announcing her Husband’s Transfer to Sokoto Prison on Social Media


Uchechigeme Anyanwuụtụtu Okwu-Kanu, wife of detained Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed strong displeasure over the manner in which news of her husband’s transfer to the Sokoto correctional facility was released to the public.


In a post shared on her verified social media page, Uchechi stated that she received information about her husband’s arrival at the Sokoto prison only three hours earlier. She criticized those who visited him on the day of the transfer, accusing them of failing to brief her privately before “running to social media” to announce it.


She warned that such conduct was unprofessional and unacceptable, stressing that she expected more decorum from those involved.


“If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress,’ and I promise you, you will be stressed,” she wrote, calling for an end to what she described as “theatrics.".
