 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI HOLDS 25TH COMBINED CONVOCATION. (PHOTOS).


 University of Maiduguri holds 25th combined convocation


University of Maiduguri has held its 25th combined convocation ceremony, awarding degrees and diplomas to 20,164  graduates, including 66 PhDs and 205 First Class honours graduates..

 The ceremony had in attendance the president  Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by the Minister of state for Education, professor  Suwaiba Ahmad .

The graduating categories  comprise 66 PhDs, 1,020 Master’s degree holders, 3,851 postgraduate diplomas, 13,624 bachelor’s degree graduates, and 1,603 diploma recipients.

Among the bachelor’s degree graduates, 205 earned First Class honors, 3,114 obtained Second Class Upper Division and 9,501 finished with Second Class Lower Division.
