No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

2026 Budget: Commissioner Explains N100m Allocation To Kaduna Wards

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has described the allocation of N100 million to each of the state’s 255 wards in the 2026 budget as a landmark decision aimed at strengthening grassroots development.

The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Mukhtar Ahmed Morovia, made this known during a post-budget press briefing following the signing of the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.

Governor Sani had on Monday assented to the N985.9 billion 2026 budget, with the education sector receiving the highest allocation of 25 per cent.

According to the governor, N698.9 billion, representing 70.9 per cent of the budget, is earmarked for capital expenditure to drive infrastructure development, economic growth and improved service delivery.

Recurrent expenditure stands at N287 billion, or 29.1 per cent, to ensure the smooth running of government services.

Speaking on the ward allocations, Morovia said the N100 million per ward reflects the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development across the state.

He explained that the funds would be disbursed transparently, with communities identifying priority projects through their Ward Development Committees.

He added that the funds would support projects in health, education, agriculture and social services, to be implemented by relevant ministries, departments and agencies. According to him, Governor Sani believes that sustainable development must begin at the grassroots, ensuring that no community is left behind.

Also speaking at the briefing, the Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs Patience Fakai, announced that the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development is now fully operational.

She said the institute has begun training under both state-supported programmes and the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework.

According to her, the institute has the capacity to train up to 32,000 students annually across 14 trade areas, positioning it as a major driver of skills acquisition, employability and workforce readiness in Kaduna State.

Justifying the education sector’s share of the budget, the Commissioner of Education, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, said the allocation aligns with UNESCO’s recommendation that developing countries devote about one-quarter of their budgets to education.

He noted that Governor Sani places a high priority on education, adding that such investment is critical to improving learning outcomes and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Several members of the State Executive Council attended the briefing, including commissioners for information, education, agriculture, environment, humanitarian affairs, business innovation and technology, and social development.
