 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  AFCO visits Eze Imo proposing nomination as 'AFCO Royal Father'


The African Farmers and Cultural Organisation (AFCO) has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Imo State Council of Ndi Eze and Chairman of the South East Council of Ndi Eze, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke, CFR, Eze Imo, at his palace in Owerri.


The visit, led by the President of AFCO, Prince Chuks Esiole, was part of the organisation’s strategy to secure high-level traditional and cultural support for its upcoming initiatives and to deepen cultural engagement across the region.


Prince Esiole officially informed Eze Imo about the organisation’s premier project: the Pan-Africa Producers and Cultural Festival (PAC-FEST), which is designed to be a landmark event showcasing the rich cultural diversity, talent, and economic potential of producers and artists across the African continent.


The highlight of the visit was the proposal to nominate HRM Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke as an AFCO International Traditional Royal Father.


"Your Royal Majesty, your reputation as a custodian of culture, a unifying force across Imo State, and the esteemed Chairman of the South East Council of Ndi Eze makes you the ideal personality for our organisation," said Prince Chuks Esiole.


"We are here not only to solicit your invaluable support for PAC-FEST but to formally propose your nomination as an AFCO International Traditional Royal Father, guiding our efforts to promote African cultural heritage globally."


HRM Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke, CFR, Eze Imo, received the AFCO delegation warmly, expressing appreciation for the honour and the vision behind PAC-FEST. He acknowledged the importance of culture in nation-building and economic development.


The Eze Imo commended AFCO for its initiative to unite the continent through arts and production, assuring the delegation of his continuous support for projects that positively impact the youth and promote the rich heritage of Imo State and the South East region.


AFCO is planning the Pan-Africa Producers and Cultural Festival (PAC-FEST), proposed to be hosted in the South East of Nigeria through Imo state Council of Ndi-Eze and South East council of Ndi-Eze, an upcoming major cultural event intended to connect African producers, artists, and global markets.
