 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Anambra State Government Approves 8-man Committee For Conduct Of Abba Town Union Election Scheduled For 28th December 2025


Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, has approved the establishment of an 8-man committee for the conduct of Abba Town Union Election on 28th December 2025.


Members of the committee that has commenced work immediately after they were inaugurated on 22nd December were the Chairman, Mr. Malachy Okafor; representing Ire village, Secretary, Emmanuel Okafor; representing Amabor village, member, Obiora Nweke; representing Okpuloji village, member, Joseph Egbeocha; representing Ezi-Abba village, and all the four chairmen of the villages in the community.


A statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, noted the failure of the Executive committee of Abba Town Union led by the President General, Mr. Alexander Ekwuagana to submit the list of the electoral committee and election guidelines for the exercise on or before 2nd December as directed in the ministry’s letter dated 24th November 2025.


While charging the electoral committee to prepare necessary ground for the conduct of a peaceful credible and successful exercise, the statement directed the Abba community to be guided accordingly and comply with government directive.
