An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend.  Cancer Patient AuntieEsther Dies After Rejecting Blood Transfusion on Religious Grounds

Mensah Omolola, the social media personality popularly known on X as AuntieEsther, has passed away following a battle with breast cancer. Her death comes months after she sparked a nationwide controversy by refusing a doctor-recommended blood transfusion due to her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness.

The news of her passing was confirmed on Saturday by media personality @AUNTYMUSE_, who had supported AuntieEsther throughout her treatment. Responding to an X post by user Tabuko (@swaggsphotos) announcing, “Unfortunately, we lost Aunty Esther. Very Sad!”, @AUNTYMUSE_ wrote, “May her soul rest in peace 🙏🙏.”

AuntieEsther's case gained widespread attention after Nigerians rallied to donate over ₦30 million for her medical care, with the fundraising primarily coordinated by charity advocate Wisdom Obi-Dickson (@Wizarab10). As of December 1, 2025, a total of ₦30.7 million had been raised.

In updates shared on her X account, AuntieEsther revealed that tests confirmed the cancer was localised to her breast and armpit areas, with her internal organs unaffected. Doctors recommended chemotherapy but advised improving her blood levels first, preferably through transfusion.

She and her family opted for alternative methods, such as injections and dietary supplements to boost blood count, stating, “My organs inside fine. Doc say she want to start chemotherapy but I go take injection.” She expressed gratitude to donors, saying, “I appreciate everybody. Thank you #Wizarab10 and #the_beardsina. God bless.”

The decision drew sharp criticism when Obi-Dickson disclosed that AuntieEsther's church had threatened disciplinary action, including disfellowship, if she accepted a transfusion. Doctors presented two options: a standard transfusion-supported treatment covered by the funds, or a longer, costlier bloodless alternative. She chose the latter to align with her beliefs.

Obi-Dickson later voiced frustration, noting persistent refusal despite medical advice from AuntieEsther, her family, and church leaders. @AUNTYMUSE_ countered that her stance against transfusion was clear from the outset, even before fundraising began, and that doctors agreed the alternative could work.

The controversy ignited intense online debate, with some calling for redirection of funds to other patients willing to accept full medical intervention, while others defended her right to religious autonomy.

No further details on the circumstances of her death or funeral arrangements have been released at this time.
