Concerned Ex-College Of Education Gidan Waya Student Decries 30 Years Of Access Road Neglect, Calls For Government Intervention

A former student leader of the Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE) Gidan Waya, Comrade Ishaya Ezra, has raised a passionate alarm over the deplorable condition of the institution’s access road, describing the 30-year neglect as unacceptable and dangerous.

Ezra, who currently serves as the Executive CMC Chairman of NANCES Kaduna State Axis and Secretary General of the NYMEF Kaduna State Chapter, issued a strongly worded statement on Tuesday urging the Kaduna State Government to take immediate action.

The former KSCOE Gidan Waya Student Union President (2020–2021) said the road leading to the college has become “a symbol of neglect” and a glaring testament to the longstanding infrastructure deficit across parts of Kaduna State.

“As a proud product of KSCOE and a son of Kaduna State, I am compelled to speak truth to power. It is unconscionable that an institution that has produced thousands of qualified teachers continues to operate in such deplorable conditions,” he said.

Ezra expressed disappointment that, in his visits to other state-owned tertiary institutions, none faces the level of infrastructural decay endured by KSCOE Gidan Waya. He contrasted the poor state of the college’s facilities with the better-maintained roads and infrastructure at Kaduna State University and Kaduna State Polytechnic.

“This is a clear case of policy neglect and unequal distribution of resources,” he stated, adding that such disparity contradicts Kaduna’s longstanding reputation as the Center of Learning.

He lamented that the poor road condition continues to expose students, staff, and surrounding communities to health risks, frequent road accidents, and economic setbacks. According to him, the dust and unsafe terrain have become daily burdens for those who depend on the institution.

Ezra called on the Kaduna State Government to develop and execute a comprehensive plan for the construction and long-term maintenance of the KSCOE Gidan Waya access road. He emphasized that the college community would persist in demanding action until the issue is finally resolved.

“We will not be silenced. We will not be ignored. Our institution must be treated with the dignity and respect it deserves,” he declared.

He further appealed to civil society organizations, community leaders, and citizens to unite in demanding equitable infrastructure development across all state-owned institutions, stressing that a stronger educational system is essential for a better Kaduna and a better Nigeria.
