AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm.  Mariah Carey wins court ruling in All I Want for Christmas copyright case

Mariah Carey has scored a legal victory in her ongoing battle over the holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” A judge has ordered the plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit against her to pay more than $92,000 in sanctions.

The case began in November 2023 when Andy Stone and Troy Powers claimed that Carey had copied their 1989 song of the same name and sought at least $20 million in damages. The judge dismissed the lawsuit in March, ruling that it lacked merit. In the latest ruling, the court determined that sanctions were warranted to discourage baseless legal claims, ordering the plaintiffs to pay $92,303.20 to Carey and additional amounts to other parties involved, bringing the total close to $110,000.
