 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  Nawfia Community Celebrates 2025 Mass Return, Raises Development Fund


Nawfia community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has celebrated its 2025 Mass Return, a colourful event that showcased  the community's rich culture, longevity and unity.


Speaking during the ceremony held at Nawfia Civic Centre, the President General of Nawfia Progressive Union, Chief Daniel Okoye explained that the occasion is a powerful reminder of their shared heritage, enduring bonds and collective responsibility to build a stronger, safer and more prosperous Nawfia.


He  called for a strong and sustained support for critical community initiatives such as Nawfia security; which he said is central to safeguarding lives and property, the Nawfia Trust Fund; designed to provide a structured and transparent means of supporting development projects, completion of the Nawfia Civic Centre, among others.


In his remarks, the Chief of Protocol to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and indigene of Nawfia, Chief Chinedu Nwoye, who noted that the community has benefited from the good governance of Governor Soludo, said that Nawfia takes the mass return seriously because it is a unifying factor; helping them celebrate their close family ties, affinity and brotherly love.


While breaking the Kola nut, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Dan Obelle described Nawfia mass return that holds every three years as a blessing to the community because they have used it to execute gigantic projects that bring development to the area.


Chief Joseph Okafor stated that Nawfia mass return 2025 is the triumph of peace and unity, and appreciated the sons and daughters of the community, both at home and in the diaspora, for participating actively in the ceremony.
