Pat Finn, actor and comedian from The Middle, dies at 60

TV actor and comedian Pat Finn has passed away at 60 after a three-year battle with cancer.

Finn, widely recognized for his recurring role as Bill Norwood on The Middle, died Monday, Dec. 22, at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by friends and family. His manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, described him as “the kindest, most joyful person in any room.”

Diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2022, Finn later faced a recurrence that metastasized. In recent months, friends raised nearly $118,000 through a GoFundMe to help cover his family’s medical expenses. Tributes quickly poured in, with comedian Jeff Dye calling him “one of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humor,” and comedy writer Brian Stack remembering him as both “brilliantly hilarious” and kind.

Over his decades-long career, Finn appeared on numerous TV comedies, including Seinfeld, Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The King of Queens, That ’70s Show, Third Rock from the Sun, and The Goldbergs. He appeared in 23 episodes of The Middle from 2011 to 2018. His film credits include Dude, Where’s My Car?, It’s Complicated, and I Love You, Beth Cooper.

A native of Evanston, Illinois, Finn was a Second City alumnus and longtime collaborator with fellow Chicago comics. He is survived by his wife, Donna, and their children, Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan. Cassidy shared a heartfelt tribute, writing, “My life is forever changed because of him. He taught me to be funny, positive, humble, to listen, to always try my best, to love, and to surround myself with the best people. I’ve never met a single person who had a bad thing to say about my dad.”
