 President Tinubu Commends Rivers Governor Fubara for Leadership as NSA Leads Delegation on Ogoni Peace Efforts


Nigeria's National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Monday visited Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, delivering a direct message from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressing satisfaction with the governor's "responsible leadership."


During a courtesy call at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ribadu, leading a high-level presidential delegation, praised Rivers State as one of the country's most peaceful and highlighted ongoing federal initiatives to restore peace and development in Ogoniland after decades of conflict.


"President said I should I thank you, he is very happy with you," Ribadu said, noting the president's happiness with Fubara's handling of discussions on resuming oil exploration in the region. He added that a "new chapter is unfolding in Ogoni," signaling transformative changes starting from the area, and thanked the Ogoni people for their patience and support.


The delegation included Minister of Works David Umahi, Minister of Environment Balarabe Lawal, and senior officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).


Key announcements included:


- Completion of major infrastructure projects, such as the N200 billion+ Eleme axis of the East-West Road (with five flyovers) by April 2026.


- Plans to dualize the Bonny-Bodo Road with two flyovers and reroute the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway through Ogoniland.


- Progress on the Ogoni cleanup, including UNEP-recommended initiatives like mangrove restoration, healthcare, and women empowerment.


- NNPCL's commitment to hiring 30 Ogoni indigenes, with appointments set for January 2026 resumption.
