 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  The traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, has urged the Umunri people to come together as one to reclaim their rightful position in national affairs.


Speaking at the 2025 Umunri Colloquium at the Civic Centre in Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ekpeh emphasized the need for a united Umunri group to drive development and social cohesion, while highlighting the importance of culture in development and citing celebrations such as Igu Aro and Iwa Ji as means of projecting their culture globally.


Igwe Ekpeh also appealed to Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba to turn his paper presentation into a book for research purposes.


Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, the guest speaker, presented a paper titled “Cultural Diplomacy and Community Development,” using Enugwu-Ukwu and Umunri as case studies, and advocated cultural promotion, economic empowerment of youths and women, and the proper packaging of culture for global appeal.
