 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Uche Ekwunife Pays Tribute to Late Senator Annie Okonkwo at 2nd Memorial Service in Ojoto


Senator Uche Ekwunife has paid glowing tribute to the late Senator Annie Clement Okonkwo (Agunechemba Ojoto) during his 2nd Memorial Service, held on Sunday, 28 December 2025, at the Senator Annie Okonkwo Agunechemba Compound in Ojoto.


Senator Ekwunife joined Lolo Mrs Chinyere Okonkwo (Wife), Prince Donatus Okonkwo, younger brother of the late senator; Hon. Harris Uchenna Okonkwo, son of the late senator and Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency; members of the Okonkwo family, the clergy; and the Ojoto community to honour the life and enduring legacy of the former lawmaker


Speaking at the memorial service, Senator Ekwunife described the late Senator Okonkwo as an influential leader whose business acumen and political career made significant contributions to leadership development, economic empowerment, and the advancement of progressive politics in Anambra State and Nigeria at large.


She noted that the late senator was a bridge-builder who leveraged his wealth, influence, and public office to uplift his people, adding that his name remains synonymous with courage, generosity, and selfless service.


The memorial service drew captains of industry, political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, clergy, and well-wishers, all gathered to reflect on the life, achievements, and lasting impact of Senator Annie Okonkwo, whose legacy continues to resonate across Ojoto, Anambra State, and beyond.
