Zelenskyy says Russia may receive peace proposals in coming days

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that proposals for a peace deal to end the nearly four-year war with Russia, negotiated with U.S. officials, could be finalized within days. Once completed, American envoys are expected to present the plan to the Kremlin before potential follow-up meetings in the United States next weekend.

Zelenskyy described the draft peace plan discussed during talks in Berlin as “very workable,” though he noted key issues, particularly the status of Ukrainian territory currently occupied by Russian forces, remain unresolved. U.S. officials said about 90% of the plan, authored by Washington, has broad agreement from Ukraine and European partners. Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv will not recognize Russian control over any part of the Donbas region, while Moscow is pushing for recognition of territories seized in eastern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula. Zelenskyy added that if Russia rejects the proposals, Ukraine expects increased Western pressure on Moscow, including stronger sanctions and additional military support. He expressed optimism about the Berlin talks, noting they demonstrated unity among the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine.
