Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the Onitsha-based pastor better known as Odumeje, has declared 2026 a year of “kabush kabash”.
Addressing his congregation during the crossover service at his church, the controversial cleric described the coming year as a period of spiritual warfare.
“2026 is a year of kabush kabash,” Odumeje proclaimed.
Kabush kabash is a slang or pidgin expression, most prominent by Odumeje, that doesn’t have a direct, single-word English translation.
Its meaning is deeply contextual and often tied to spiritual confrontation while speaking in tongues, or glossolalia.
Speaking in tongues is the practice of uttering speech-like syllables or languages unknown to the speaker, often considered a spiritual gift in Christianity.
During his declaration, Odumeje performed a series of dramatic hand gestures, forming an ‘X’ with his arms while simultaneously raising his index and middle fingers — a signature aspect of his theatric delivery.
He also announced that although the year would bring many wars, he was prepared for the conflict, boasting that he had already “engaged God” to fight on his congregation’s behalf.
“I know that many will come. I am ready for the battle. Lift up your hands of destiny. The battle is not yours. I am ready to fight your war. I and my heavenly father. From today, prepare the burials of your enemies one by one. I am a warlord. I have never lost a fight. I can never lose a battle,” he added.
Odumeje has long been a figure of public controversy, rising to fame through his unorthodox preaching style and claims of supernatural abilities.
In 2024, he responded to critics who accused him of wielding fake powers by boldly declaring himself “a liquid metal”.
Last year, the cleric declared his intention to run for Nigeria’s presidential seat.
