 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Okowa, Sheriff, APC stakeholders holds 'high level' meeting in Asaba


Former Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the current governor of the state, His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside other leaders and stakeholders of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, came together on Friday January 23 2026, for what Okowa described as a 'high-level meeting' at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba.


Okowa took to his official X handle to announce this, giving some of his highlights from the gathering.


Okowa said that he commended stakeholders for the unity and sustained engagement within the party, while urging intensified grassroots mobilisation by taking the ongoing e-registration exercise directly to homes and communities.


He also stressed the importance and the need for our leaders to return to their constituencies with renewed commitment to strengthening the party at all levels.


Okowa also expressed his appreciation to the sitting Governor Oborevwori for his leadership and his role in fostering harmony across Delta state.
