 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED; TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED 


The Bauchi State Police Command announces the recovery of a stolen Honda Civic vehicle, army-green in colour, intercepted by a patrol team attached to B' Divisional Police Headquarters on January 23, 2026, at approximately 0145hrs, along the Bauchi-Jos road. Muazu Abdulkarim (32), of Emir's Drive, Bauchi, and his girlfriend, Rukayya Muhammad (22), of Bakaro, Bauchi, were apprehended while in possession of the vehicle.


2.Preliminary investigations confirm the vehicle was stolen on December 13, 2025, from Old Jos Road, Unguwar Kaya Zaria, Kaduna State. The rightful owner is a medical doctor at FMC Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State.


3.On the instruction of CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu psc (+), mni, the rightful owner has been contacted and retrieved the vehicle after verifying ownership.


4.The suspects are under investigation and will be prosecuted.
