 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 GOV. ALIA DECLARES FREE BASIC EDUCATION IN BENUE, LAUNCHES BRACE-UP INITIATIVE, BAGS NUT GOLDEN AWARD

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has announced free education for pupils in all government-owned public schools in Benue State from Basic One to Basic Nine.


The governor made the declaration on Friday at the maiden Benue Basic Education Summit held at the College of Health Sciences, Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.


Alia said the policy was part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no child of school age is denied access to education. He explained that the decision was aimed at supporting poor and vulnerable families while building a strong educational foundation for the state’s future leaders.


The governor highlighted steps already taken in the education sector, including the recruitment of over 9,700 teachers, regular payment of salaries, and implementation of the harmonised retirement age for teachers.


He called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to support the enforcement of compulsory basic education, stressing that the future of the state depends on investing in its children.


As part of efforts to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children, the governor also launched a new initiative tagged Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Un-enrolled Pupils (BRACE-UP).


According to him, the project will mobilise community leaders, parents and teachers to identify out-of-school children, create flexible learning pathways and track pupils from enrolment to completion. He pledged sustained funding and policy support in line with the Universal Basic Education framework.


In a related development, the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, led by Comrade Audu Titus Amba, presented the governor with a Golden Award for Education and Teacher Friendliness.


The union said the award recognises the administration’s efforts to revitalise basic education in the state.


Responding, Alia promised to clear outstanding arrears owed to retired teachers and reaffirmed his commitment to improving teachers’ welfare.


“You have taught me and I won’t cheat you,” the governor said.
