Producer of Israeli TV series ‘Tehran’ dies suddenly in Greece

Israeli television producer Dana Eden, widely recognized for co-creating the Emmy Award–winning espionage drama “Tehran,” has died at the age of 52 while in Greece. Eden was found dead in a hotel room in Athens, where she had been staying during production of the fourth season of the acclaimed series. Initial indications from authorities suggested she had taken her own life, and officials said there were no signs of foul play.

Eden was considered one of the most influential figures in Israel’s television industry, playing a key role in developing and leading several major productions. Colleagues described her as deeply dedicated to her craft, praising her professionalism, creative vision, and lasting impact on Israeli public broadcasting. Her production company, Donna and Shula Productions, issued a statement rejecting rumors that her death was criminal or politically motivated, calling such claims false and urging the public to respect her family’s privacy during a time of profound grief.

Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar expressed sorrow over her passing, calling Eden one of the country’s most prominent and impactful producers. He said she helped bring Israeli storytelling to international audiences with pride and courage. “Tehran,” which debuted in Israel and later streamed internationally beginning in 2020, follows Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad operative assigned to infiltrate Iran’s power grid in preparation for a military strike. The series earned global acclaim and won best drama series at the 49th International Emmy Awards in 2021.

Eden began her career in television production in the 1990s, contributing to projects such as the comedy “Yom Haem” and the crime drama “Magpie.” Over the years, she built a reputation for producing high-quality programming across genres. In 2018, her series “Saving the Wildlife” won Best TV Magazine for Children and Youth at the Israeli Television Academy Awards, further cementing her legacy as a creative force in the industry.
