SUSPECTED ONLINE CAR DEALER ARRESTED IN ADIKPO OVER N7.8 MILLION FRAUD

3rd February, 2026

Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have arrested a man, Andrew Agema Akaanan, also known online as Wave Agm, over allegations of defrauding a woman of N7.8 million in a fake car sale.

The victim reportedly contacted Agema via Facebook to buy a 2012 Toyota Corolla. Trusting him as a legitimate car dealer, she transferred the full amount to his account. Agema later claimed he had travelled to Minna to procure the vehicle, but two days after the payment, he became unreachable.

A Facebook user D’nkaked Elder Sughnen intervened, contacting the suspect to either deliver the car or return the money. When the suspect refused, the matter was formally reported to the Benue State Police Command.

Police tracking led to Agema’s arrest in Adikpo. He is now assisting investigators with the ongoing probe.

The incident underscores the dangers of online transactions without proper verification. Authorities continue to urge the public to exercise caution, verify sellers’ credentials, and avoid large cash transfers to strangers.
