Figure skater Amber Glenn says she won’t accept White House invitation to celebrate Olympic gold win

Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn revealed she will decline a White House invitation to celebrate her 2026 gold medal win.

Speaking to Us Weekly on the red carpet at the GLAAD Media Awards, the 26-year-old said she supports fellow athletes who have made the same choice, emphasizing that it is every Olympian’s right to decide what they endorse.

Glenn explained that she does not blame others for refusing the invitation and is exercising her own freedom to do the same.

Glenn acknowledged that while she has received some criticism for her stance, the support far outweighs the negativity. She said the visibility she provides for young athletes is more important than the opinions of those who are “hateful of empathy and kindness.”

During the ceremony, Glenn presented the award for Outstanding New TV Series to Heated Rivalry and praised GLAAD for its work in promoting queer representation across media.

She highlighted the importance of visibility in sports, particularly in figure skating, where she has been outspoken about her identity.

The skater also shared a lighthearted moment from her trip with longtime friend Gayle King, who struggled with tight pants while Glenn laughed nearby.

Beyond the humor, Glenn reiterated her commitment to living authentically, noting that she has embraced lifestyle changes and continues to focus on her health and career.

Her decision to skip the White House visit reflects her broader message of prioritizing personal values and representation over public approval.
