Jill Biden to release memoir View From the East Wing in June

Former First Lady Jill Biden will release her memoir, View from the East Wing, on June 2. The book reflects on her experiences during Joe Biden’s presidency, including his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Published by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, the memoir will also be available as an audio edition narrated by Biden herself. The book offers an intimate look at life as First Lady during major historical events, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the aftermath of January 6, while sharing her personal perspective on the presidency and its impact on her family. For the first time, she details her experiences surrounding her husband’s choice not to seek reelection, sharing both the uplifting and challenging moments of that period.

In an Instagram post, Biden said the memoir explores what her husband’s withdrawal meant for her personally. “Parts of this story have been told, but not all of it,” she wrote. “In View from the East Wing, I share the good moments that lifted me, and the difficult ones that challenged me. I also reflect on how this chapter in our lives came to a close, when Joe made the unprecedented decision not to seek reelection and pass the torch, what that moment meant for our family and for me, personally, after years of public service together.”

The title is a nod to the East Wing of the White House, which traditionally houses the first lady’s offices but was torn down last year by President Donald Trump to make way for a new ballroom, new offices for the first lady, and a movie theater. Joe Biden is also working on his memoir, which will be published by Hachette Book Group at a later date.
