Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has said that many of the achievements recorded by his administration would not have been possible without the support of President Bola Tinubu.
Sani made this remark on Thursday in Kaduna while hosting social media influencers for an Iftar, the meal used to break the Ramadan fast.
According to the governor, Kaduna State will be the first subnational government to benefit from the $200 million Nigeria–China Poultry Project.
“By the grace of God, within the next two months we will begin the groundbreaking for the construction of the largest poultry project in Sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.
He explained that the project is expected to create about 350 direct jobs and more than 150,000 indirect jobs, while also supporting roughly 10,000 small businesses across the state.
Sani also revealed that Kaduna, alongside Lagos State, will be among the first states in Nigeria to have a light rail system.
He added that the groundbreaking ceremony for the project is scheduled for May and credited President Tinubu’s support for making it possible.
The governor commended the social media influencers for helping to promote the activities of the state government, describing them as professionals who are passionate about good governance.
He noted that they had played an important role in publicising the administration’s achievements over the past two years.
Speaking on education, Sani said the state government, in partnership with the Kuwait Development Fund, had built 104 schools to help address the issue of out-of-school children.
In addition, 65 secondary schools have been constructed and more than 2,300 classrooms renovated across the state.
“We are also planning to build another 55 secondary schools,” he said.
He further announced that the government would begin recruiting at least 2,000 primary school teachers from next month, with the exercise to continue annually.
Sani stated that the number of out-of-school children in Kaduna had reduced from 580,000 in 2023 to 182,000.
The governor also highlighted the state’s progress in skills development, noting that vocational institutions have been established in Soba, Rigachikun and Zangon Kataf.
According to him, the institutions are equipped to graduate about 32,000 certified artisans annually under the supervision of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
He added that these artisans would be qualified to work anywhere in the world.
Sani said his administration also reduced tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions shortly after assuming office, which resulted in a 200 percent increase in student enrollment.
In the health sector, the governor revealed that the state government had upgraded 255 primary healthcare centres from Level 1 to Level 2 and improved 16 secondary healthcare facilities.
He also said the government had begun an annual recruitment plan that would see about 1,800 medical personnel including doctors and nurses employed over the next five years.
Sani noted that Kaduna was the first state in the country to conduct the groundbreaking for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone.
According to him, the state government is also partnering with Afreximbank to establish an Africa Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC) to help farmers certify their produce for export.
“When we assumed office in 2023, the agriculture budget was only 0.5 percent. Today, it has increased to more than 11 percent, surpassing the Malabo Declaration target,” he said.
He added that the government had distributed 900 trucks of fertiliser free of charge to smallholder farmers to boost food production.
