A 19-year-old Texas man survived a lightning strike while fishing with his mother the day before Mothers Day. Hunter Wyche proclaimed himself the "unluckiest lucky man" after he was struck by lightning on Saturday, May 10th. Hunter had taken his mother fishing along the Angelina River and was expecting a relaxing day catching up with his mom and maybe catching a few fish. However, while Hunter leaned against a tree, lightning struck, throwing him several feet and leaving him unconscious and wounded. Hunter blacked out during the ordeal and awoke to his mother and a crowd of people around him. As Hunter regained consciousness, he couldn't move his right foot and could barely move his leg.  WATER CRISIS DEEPENS IN MAKURDI AS RESIDENTS DEPEND ON SINGLE UNSAFE SOURCE, EYEWITNESS RAISES ALARM OVER HEALTH RISKS

Residents living behind the International Market in Makurdi, Benue State, have raised fresh concerns over acute water scarcity, with reports that families and internally displaced persons (IDPs) depend on a single, unsafe water source for drinking and domestic use.

The situation came to light following an eyewitness account by Joy M. Iorhuna, who described the condition as “heartbreaking” after visiting the area. According to her, the water source serves both residents and displaced persons within the area.

Iorhuna said she observed children fetching and drinking from the source, raising fears about public health risks. She questioned how such conditions persist in the heart of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

She further alleged that while some affluent residents in the area have private boreholes, access is reportedly restricted, leaving poorer households without safe drinking water.

The development highlights ongoing concerns about access to basic amenities in urban communities, particularly for vulnerable groups such as IDPs.

“I saw children drinking from there and waiting to fetch water to take home. It broke me completely,” Iorhuna said.

“How can people in the state capital be facing what many rural communities no longer experience?” she added.

She called for urgent intervention from relevant authorities and well-meaning individuals to address the situation.
