YOUNG MAN DIES, PASTOR BATTLES FOR LIFE AS STORM RAVAGES CHURCH IN KARU— FAMILY

A heavy rainstorm has claimed the life of a young man, Moses Gata, and left a church pastor critically injured after the roof of a worship centre collapsed in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident occurred during a downpour accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday, which reportedly weakened the structure before it caved in on occupants.

Eyewitnesses said the intensity of the windstorm tore through the building, ripping off the roof and causing extensive damage. Several worshippers were trapped in the debris.

Moses Gata, described by acquaintances as calm and dedicated, died from injuries sustained in the collapse. His death has thrown family and friends into mourning.

The pastor of the church, who was also caught in the incident, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Residents say the storm was unusually intense, raising fresh concerns about the safety of buildings, especially public and religious structures, during extreme weather.

A statement from the victim’s family called for urgent intervention.

“We appeal to the Nasarawa State Government, emergency agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the treatment of the injured pastor and assist the family of the deceased,” the statement read.

The incident has renewed calls for stricter building standards and regular structural checks across the state.
