Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, best known for Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, has revealed what he believes is the secret to his longevity as he approaches his 100th birthday on December 13.

In a recent interview, he explained that avoiding anger and hatred has been central to his well-being, noting that he has never been able to summon deep feelings of hate and instead credits his “brighter outlook” for keeping him strong.

Van Dyke also emphasized the importance of his relationship with his wife, Arlene, who is 54.

He described their romance as the most vital factor in keeping him youthful, saying she makes him feel decades younger.

While acknowledging the loneliness of outliving many of his closest friends, he continues to find joy in companionship and creative pursuits.

His new book, 100 Rules For Living To 100, reflects on lessons from his life, each tied to personal stories with broader meaning.

Despite the challenges of aging, Van Dyke maintains a youthful spirit, insisting he often feels like a teenager and never wakes up in a bad mood.

He takes comfort in knowing his legacy will live on through the music and performances that continue to delight audiences, from “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” to “Chim Chim Cher-ee.”

With a career spanning seven decades, decorated by Emmys, a Tony, and a Grammy, he reflects on his journey as “a wonderfully full and exciting life”  one he feels grateful to have lived.
