UKRAINE URGES US TO PRESSURE RUSSIA FOR CEASEFIRE, CITING MIDDLE EAST TRUCE AS EXAMPLE. (PHOTO).

Ukraine urges US to pressure Russia for ceasefire, citing Middle East truce as example

Kyiv on Wednesday called on the United States to pressure Russia into ending its ongoing invasion, citing Washington’s recent ceasefire agreement with Iran as an example of effective U.S. action. Ukrainian officials said the deal demonstrated how decisive U.S. leadership can create conditions for peace, and urged similar efforts to halt Moscow’s attacks in Europe.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga emphasized that Ukraine supports diplomatic solutions and highlighted that a ceasefire in the Middle East could serve as a model for ending the war with Russia. The Kremlin expressed hope for a new round of talks with U.S. and Ukrainian representatives following the Tehran-Washington truce. U.S. Vice President JD Vance acknowledged the difficulty of resolving the Ukraine conflict but said Washington would continue working toward a solution, criticizing European leaders for showing little interest in advancing negotiations.

Zelenskyy also noted that Ukrainian military teams assisting Middle Eastern countries in countering Iranian drone attacks will remain in the region. Kyiv has deployed over 200 personnel specializing in drone defense, stressing the global implications of instability in the Middle East. He reiterated that Ukraine is prepared to pause attacks on Russian infrastructure if Moscow stops long-range drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian power facilities, highlighting that a ceasefire could help create conditions for broader agreements.

Since February 2022, Russia’s invasion has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and displaced millions, making it Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.
