U.S searches for missing pilot after Iran downs fighter jet, hits Dubai with drone strike

The U.S. military intensified its search Saturday for a missing pilot in southwestern Iran after the country shot down an American F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet and called on citizens to report the pilot in exchange for a reward. One crew member from the aircraft was rescued, while the fate of a second remains unknown, marking the first U.S. aircraft losses in Iranian territory since the conflict began six weeks ago. The situation signals a potential turning point in a war that has already killed thousands, disrupted global markets, and triggered spikes in fuel prices.

The downing of the F-15E followed recent U.S. and Israeli airstrikes that President Donald Trump claimed had decimated Iran’s defenses. Iran also reported that a U.S. A-10 attack aircraft crashed in the Persian Gulf, though U.S. officials have not confirmed whether it was shot down. In the region, Iranian missile and drone strikes continued, hitting Israel and damaging the Dubai headquarters of tech giant Oracle. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has previously targeted Amazon Web Services facilities in the UAE and Bahrain. Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament speaker issued a veiled warning to disrupt traffic through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, a key global trade route, adding to the ongoing crisis at the Strait of Hormuz. The war has left more than 1,900 dead in Iran, with significant casualties across Lebanon, Israel, Gulf Arab states, and the occupied West Bank.
