 U.N chief Guterres calls for countries fueling Sudan's war to be held accountable United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Wednesday for countries providing weapons to the warring parties in Sudan that are used to attack civilians to be held accountable. "What is happening in Sudan is absolutely horrible. The humanitarian situation in Sudan is devastating. The level of suffering of the Sudanese people is intolerable," Guterres told reporters ahead of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York next week. Sudan's war, which erupted in April 2023 following a power struggle between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has displaced more than 14 million people and created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. ABSU Student Reports Assault by Police Officers at Uturu Road Checkpoint


A nursing student at Abia State University (ABSU) in Uturu has reported being assaulted by police officers during a vehicle stop at a checkpoint along Uturu Road on May 9, 2026. 


According to the student, identified on social media as Buddy Jnr, the incident occurred around 2:31 p.m. while he was traveling in a minibus. He stated that officers in camouflage, without visible name tags, stopped the vehicle and ordered passengers to alight. The officers questioned individuals about phone ownership and occupations before taking him, his brother, and another passenger aside.

The student alleged that the officers beat the three men, resulting in injuries including bleeding from the ear and a broken phone screen. He further claimed the officers made threats during the encounter. A 36-second video posted with the account shows officers questioning individuals at the roadside in an agitated manner.
