At 65 You Have to Be Careful With Surprise Gifts - George Clooney Jokes

George Clooney is rethinking how he feels about surprise celebrations after a playful birthday setup arranged by his wife, Amal Clooney.

The Oscar winner, who recently turned 65, was the subject of a carefully planned surprise that involved friends of his stepping into unexpected roles during the celebration.

Amal, 48, shared details of the moment during an interview with British Vogue at the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration in London on Monday, May 11, explaining that she orchestrated the surprise as part of his birthday marking.

“I just surprised him on his birthday, actually with a number of things that…” she began, before George jumped in.

“Yeah, she had friends of mine show up posing,” he said, as Amal completed the thought, “Posing as waiters.”

While amused by the effort, George admitted the experience made him rethink surprise parties at his age, joking about the unpredictability of turning 65.

“It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65,” he said. “You could drop, that could be the end of you, so you have to be very careful when you surprise people.”

He then added with a laugh, “Yeah, I’m still standing, barely.”

The couple, who are parents to twins Alexander and Ella, 9, have been enjoying time together recently, including a visit to St. Tropez in the South of France during George’s birthday period.

During their time away, they also reflected on parenting and the advice they want to pass on to their children, though their approaches differed.

George kept his message light, saying, “Don’t mix grain and grape, I think that’s important for the children to know.”

Amal, who works as a human rights lawyer, offered a more thoughtful perspective, saying, “We want them to stay curious, ask questions, and challenge things that don’t make sense in the world.”

George quickly pointed out the contrast between them, joking, “You see, my wife gives an elegant answer, and I give the important one.”
