 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Thai train driver charged with negligence after deadly Bangkok bus collision kills 8

   Thai authorities have charged a train driver with negligence following a deadly crash in central Bangkok that killed eight people and injured 32 others when a freight train collided with a public bus at a rail crossing on Saturday.

Police said the train driver was formally charged with negligence causing death after investigators determined there was evidence of reckless conduct that led to the fatal collision. The driver remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities also said the bus driver is expected to face charges, but has not yet been questioned due to injuries sustained in the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment. Officials added that additional charges could still be filed as the investigation develops.

The crash occurred when a freight train struck a bus that had stopped on the tracks at a red light, triggering a fire that engulfed the vehicle and caused damage to nearby traffic. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the area has since been cleared with rail services restored.

Transport officials said safety measures and oversight at crossings will be reviewed in response to the incident in an effort to prevent similar accidents. Local commuters said the crossing had long been seen as dangerous, with concerns that vehicles frequently ignored warning signals.

Thailand continues to face high rates of road traffic fatalities, with safety experts pointing to enforcement challenges and risky driving behavior as ongoing concerns.
