 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. BAUCHI POLICE ROLLS OUT MOBILE COURT AS ENFORCEMENT AGAINST UNREGISTERED VEHICLES, CONCEALED NUMBER PLATES BEGINS


In line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM and in fulfillment of its mandate to ensure road safety and national security, the Bauchi State Police Command has commenced strict enforcement against unregistered vehicles and the use of concealed/fictitious number plates across the state.


Accordingly, the Command, in collaboration with the State Judiciary, has deployed Mobile Courts to the five Area Command Headquarters, and strategic locations within Bauchi metropolis. The Mobile Courts have already commenced swift prosecution of offenders. The operation targets vehicles operating without proper registration, vehicles with covered/obscured plates, and those using unauthorized or fake number plates.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), disclosed that unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles remain a major security risk. He noted that such vehicles are often used to perpetrate violent crimes like kidnapping, armed robbery, etc. He further emphasized that the enforcement is not aimed at harassing motorists, but at protecting lives and property.


Furthermore, CP Omolori warned that vehicles found in violation will be impounded, and offenders will face immediate prosecution before the Mobile Court. Penalties include fines and other sanctions as stipulated by the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Laws and the Nigeria Police Regulations.


Consequently, the Command is urging all vehicle owners and drivers to regularize their documents, ensure proper plate display, and desist from covering or defacing number plates. Members of the public are also advised to cooperate with officers on duty, as the enforcement will be continuous and devoid of compromise.


The Command remains committed to a safer road environment and will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements who hide behind untraceable vehicles to commit crimes.
