Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Brazil Supreme Court convicts Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercion in coup trial interference case, sentences him to 4 years in prison

  

Brazil’s Supreme Court has convicted former lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercion in connection with efforts to influence the trial that led to the conviction and 27-year prison sentence of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, over an alleged coup attempt.

He was sentenced to four years and two months in prison after all five justices agreed he illegally interfered in the proceedings by lobbying the U.S. government to pressure Brazilian officials into halting the case. One of the justices said his role as a federal lawmaker did not include conducting foreign lobbying against Brazil.

Eduardo Bolsonaro’s legal team rejected the ruling, arguing there was insufficient evidence to support a conviction. He has been living in Texas since early 2025.

The case unfolds against ongoing political tensions involving Brazil’s judiciary and international relations tied to Jair Bolsonaro’s prosecution. The former president was sentenced last year to 27 years in prison over allegations he attempted to overturn his 2022 election loss to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The court ruling also comes amid broader diplomatic friction involving the United States and Brazil, including past tariff disputes and political exchanges between leaders. Eduardo Bolsonaro has been active in efforts to rally international support for his father and is currently campaigning for his brother, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who is preparing for a presidential bid despite facing political controversy.

Eduardo Bolsonaro has not publicly commented on the decision.
