 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Kachia Legislative Council Elects New Principal Officers 


The Kachia Legislative Council has elected a new set of principal officers following the resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Mark Bawa, former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Monday Malachy Gadani, and former Majority Leader, Hon. Timothy Abel Bako.


The leadership change took place during a special sitting of the Council convened to fill the vacant positions and ensure the smooth continuation of legislative activities within the local government.


Following the election, Hon. Francis Usman, Councillor representing Doka Ward, emerged as the new Speaker of the Kachia Legislative Council. Hon. Timothy Abel Bako, Councillor representing Gumel Ward and former Majority Leader, was elected Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Monday Malachy Gadani, Councillor representing Gidan Tagwai Ward and former Deputy Speaker, was chosen as the new Majority Leader.


The newly elected principal officers were subsequently sworn in by the Clerk of the House and officially assumed their responsibilities.


In his inaugural remarks, Speaker Francis Usman expressed appreciation to fellow councillors for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to provide purposeful leadership anchored on transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity.


He also emphasized the importance of unity among Council members and assured stakeholders of a cordial working relationship with the executive arm of government to foster development across Kachia Local Government Area.


The new leadership further pledged to strengthen the Council's legislative and oversight responsibilities, promote good governance, and support policies and programmes that will enhance the welfare of residents in all wards of the local government.


The Council commended the outgoing principal officers for their contributions and service, describing the transition as peaceful, orderly, and in line with democratic principles. It reaffirmed its commitment to institutional stability, effective representation, and the advancement of democratic governance in Kachia.
