 Madonna says, “My daughter approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship”

Madonna has spoken about the personal experiences that influenced her upcoming album, saying family events played a significant role in shaping the project.

In an interview with Interview magazine, the singer said her new record, *Confessions II*, was developed during a period marked by family-related events, including the passing of her brother Christopher Ciccone and her stepmother Joan.

“I had a lot of stuff going on in my life personally,” Madonna said.

She explained that the experiences influenced the direction of her songwriting.

“It’s hard for me to write a song about nothing. I have to tell a story. So I wrote about a lot of family trauma, and then we started making dance music,” she said.

Madonna also discussed working with her daughter, Lourdes Leon, known as Lola, on the album. According to the singer, the collaboration began after Lourdes suggested they write music together.

“My daughter approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship,” Madonna said.

She added that the moment became an important part of the creative process and helped reinforce her decision to move forward with the project.

“The song I wrote with my daughter, Lola, was a really important moment, and it solidified the idea that now is the time to make this record,” she said.

Reflecting on the period, Madonna referenced several events occurring around the same time, including her brother's illness, his subsequent d!ath, and her daughter's approach about collaborating on music.

The comments came shortly after Madonna attended the Saint Laurent show during Men's Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday.

She was seated alongside guests including Kate Moss, Rami Malek, Charli XCX and Austin Butler. During the event, she was also photographed greeting Charli XCX.

Madonna and Lourdes have worked together on previous projects and have occasionally discussed aspects of their relationship in public interviews over the years.
