 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  NASARAWA POLICE COMMAND WARNS AGAINST VIOLATION OF THE ELECTORAL ACT, ORDERS STRICT ENFORCEMENT


The Nasarawa State Police Command has in strong term warned the general public,  politicians, their supporters, and political groups against engaging in political rallies, processions, and other forms of campaigns in violation of the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act. The warning is sequel to a violent clash between supporters of rival political office seekers in parts of the State, which resulted in the destruction of property, vandalisation of campaign billboards, and damage to vehicles belonging to innocent members of the public. 


A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Ranhan Nansel says the Command notes  that Section 98 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, stipulates that political campaigns shall commence not earlier than one hundred and fifty (150) days before polling day and shall end twenty-four (24) hours prior to the day of the election.


The Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro expressed concern over the activities of some political supporters whose actions threaten the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed across Nasarawa State.


He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to providing a level playing field for all political actors while ensuring the protection of lives and property.


Accordingly, all political parties, aspirants, support groups, and their agents are advised to strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act regarding the commencement and conduct of political campaigns, rallies, processions, meetings, and other related activities or face the full wrath of the law.
