Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. In a major triumph for local law enforcement, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, after three agonizing days in captivity.


The high-stakes, late-night rescue operation was executed at approximately 7:30 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Security sources confirm that the mother and her children were recovered alive and well.


The Abduction


Mrs. Adegoke, who is the younger sister of Nigeria's immediate past Minister of Power, Adegoke Adelabu, was kidnapped alongside her twin sons in Ibadan on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026, at around 7:30 AM. The brazen daylight abduction had triggered an intensive, multi-agency manhunt across Oyo State and its environs.


 Tactical Breakthrough


While details of the tactical raid remain tightly guarded to protect ongoing investigations, the swift breakthrough has been widely praised as a significant win against local kidnapping syndicates.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding the exact location of the rescue or whether any arrests were made during the operation.
