 U.S announces visa curbs for some foreign nationals in South Africa Secretary of State Marco Rubio ‌said on Tuesday the U.S. government was announcing a new visa restriction ​policy targeting some foreign nationals ​in South Africa. The policy targets "foreign ⁠nationals who are responsible for, ​or complicit in, the enactment or ​implementation of laws or policies that enable uncompensated land seizures, race-based discrimination, and/or ​the incitement of imminent violence ​against members of minority ethnic or racial ‌groups ⁠in South Africa," Rubio said in a statement. "The South African government has not adequately addressed the ​previously laid ​out ⁠concerns," Rubio said, Reuters reported. Relations between Washington and Pretoria have ​soured since the start of ​Donald ⁠Trump's second term, with the U.S. president criticizing the country ⁠for ​its policies aimed at ​addressing racial inequality.

Michelle Obama is opening up about the deeper meaning behind the fashion choices that made headlines throughout her years in the White House.


Ahead of the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, the former First Lady shared a new video reflecting on how carefully she approached her public image while serving alongside former President Barack Obama.


According to Michelle, she quickly realized that what she wore would always attract attention and discussion, making every appearance an opportunity to send a message.


"The clothes I wore in the White House would never be seen as just clothes," she said.


She explained that every decision, from the designer and color to the overall style, required thoughtful consideration before stepping into public view.


Working closely with her team, Michelle said she used fashion as a way to highlight talented designers and ensure different communities could see themselves represented.


Rather than viewing clothing as a personal statement alone, she saw it as a chance to tell a broader story about identity, confidence and inclusion.


Several of her most memorable outfits are now featured inside the Obama Presidential Center Museum. For Michelle, those pieces represent much more than fashion.


She said they reflect purpose, self-belief and the freedom people have to define beauty for themselves.


Her latest comments echo themes explored in her 2025 book, The Look, which examined the role style played during her years as First Lady.


Speaking previously about fashion and public life, Michelle noted that while she was a highly visible figure, she never wanted her wardrobe to overshadow the work she was doing or the messages she hoped to share.


Now, years after leaving the White House, she is looking back at those fashion choices as part of a larger story about representation and impact.
