 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 3 dead, 4 injured as truck crashes and traps occupants before exploding in Adazi-Ani 


The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal lone road traffic crash that claimed the lives of three persons on Friday, July 17, 2026. 


The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. near St. Jude Catholic Church, Adazi-Ani, along the Nnobi–Agulu–Awka Road. 


According to the FRSC, the cr@sh involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck with registration number XB270NNL. 


Preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure, caught fire, and the driver lost c0ntrol. 


The truck crashed into a roadside barricade, somersaulted, and trapped some occupants as it became £ngulfed in flames. 


A Press Statement released by the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret B Onabe said a total of seven male occupants were involved. While three persons di£d on the spot, four others sustained serious injuri£s. 


The Press Statement said FRSC rescue personnel responded swiftly to a distress call received at 10:35 a.m., and  immediately took control of traffic, diverted vehicles to the opposite lane, and arranged for the removal of the b#rnt truck from the roadway. 


Reacting to the crash, the Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the dec£ased and wished the injur£d a speedy recovery. 


She reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to prompt emergency response and road safety enforcement. 


Corps Commander Asekhauno urged motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to always ensure their vehicles are mechanically sound before embarking on any journey. 


She advised against carrying flammable materials in unsafe conditions and called for regular vehicle maintenance to prevent mechanical failures.
