Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed that his administration will never demolish any property without first providing fair and adequate compensation to affected owners.
The governor made the commitment while presenting compensation cheques to 122 households affected by the 15-kilometre Ring Road project stretching from Danbushiya Junction to Danhono 2 in Millennium City.
Speaking at the event, Sani stressed that public interest should never be used as an excuse for injustice, noting that development must be carried out with fairness, compassion, and respect for the rights of citizens.
He explained that although construction had commenced after the project's groundbreaking, it later became clear that several homes and structures were located within the project's designated right-of-way. According to him, the situation presented not only an engineering challenge but also a moral responsibility to balance infrastructure development with the dignity and rights of residents.
To ensure fairness, the governor said his administration deliberately slowed some construction activities to allow for a transparent and comprehensive assessment of all affected properties and utilities before compensation was approved.
Sani acknowledged the inconvenience and uncertainty faced by affected families, thanking them for their patience and cooperation throughout the process. He described the compensation as an act of justice rather than charity, aimed at helping beneficiaries relocate, rebuild, and continue their lives with dignity.
The governor also highlighted previous compensation efforts under his administration, revealing that households affected by road projects in Rigasa, Mahuta, Zaria, Audi-Kako, Dogon Bauchi-Kakiyeyi, Kabala Costain, and other locations had already received compensation.
He disclosed that the Kaduna State Government has paid more than ₦3 billion in compensation to citizens affected by various infrastructure projects across the state. He assured residents that the compensation process would remain transparent, equitable, verifiable, and timely.
Governor Sani reiterated that his administration remains committed to pursuing development with justice, compassion, and integrity, insisting that meaningful progress should never come at the expense of the welfare and dignity of citizens.
